My home pharmacy...
Friday, which was the 23rd I had a doctors appointment. A few days before I had received all my medication in the mail. I started unpacking the large box and putting things in the fridge that needed to go there. The follistim which is a drug that helps your body to produce a large number of eggs was in this package. Follistim has a little pen that you load the medicine into and then you give yourself a shot in the stomach. The pen is alot like the pens people with allergies use or people with diabetes use. The needle is about an inch long, if that, and it looks like it won't be that big of a deal. Next, I pulled out some syringes that made me a little nervous. The needles on these things are about 3-4 inches long!!! There was a small bottle of water and then a small bottle of this powdery stuff. This medication is hcg, which is a hormone that helps your body to release the eggs that it has been making. In my box of goodies there were also alchohol pads because as you would expect everything has to be cleaned immaculately (counter tops, skin, hands) because I'm giving myself injections. I also received a large number of replacement needles for my pen and a bio-hazard container for all my needles. Yes, my house is beginning to look like my doctors office. Back to my first statement... on the 23rd I went in to the doctors office so that the nurse could teach me how to give the injections. Jill is the name of my "cycle manager" and she did a good job of informing me and making me at ease with this whole process. I did tell Jill that the large needles make me feel a little queasy every time I think about them. She informed me that the hcg shots cannot be given by myself. Jill said that Jeremy would have to give me that one. Jeremy had already informed me that he did not want to give me any shots. He is scared of hurting me and to be honest he's a little less manly about all this than I thought he'd be. The man who rips out jawbones of deer for science and guts and cleans them can't handle his wifes blood or other issues. Thankfully my mother-in-law is a pediatric nurse and quite used to giving shots. She has agreed to give me the hcg. *Thanks Mom!!!* i definitely owe you one! I go in for an ultrasound on thursday afternoon and they will see if my body has a few small follicles, they have to make sure I don't have any estrogen related cysts (which would hinder me from taking the follistim). If everything looks good I should be taking the meds by next week. I will write more after the appointment thursday. I just want to say thanks to those who have been praying for me. I am amazed everyday by the grace God gives to us. Please continue your prayers as the meds come because there's always the side effects and I don't want to make everyone around me miserable :) (especially my poor husband) more on thursday...
