Searching for our tree of life

I have ants in my apartment!!! Not a ton of them, but an annoying amount. I vacuum, I've tried windex because somebody told me it erases their trail and then more ants won't come, but it's obviously not working. Anybody ever heard of anything that will kill them that is non-toxic and maybe natural??? I can't just spray bug spray because of Jakob...
