The napping dilemma...

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. Our trip was a lot of fun. I have been trying for two days to download pictures onto blogger, but it either takes forever to download the pictures or (like this morning) it finally downloaded all my pictures and when I hit add selected all my pics disappeared! It is aggravating, but I will try again later. We actually started our Christmas celebrations on Wednesday because we were leaving for Niceville on Thursday. Wednesday we opened gifts with Jakob here at the house. We got him a little atv (which was his big present) and then a leap frog dvd and some (stuffed animals) Disney toys. I think the biggest hit was his Mike and Sully from Monster’s Inc. It only took the first present for Jakob to understand that every wrapped gift had a surprise inside. It was so fun to watch him ripping into every present. The only problem we had was every house we went to he would see wrapped gifts and his eyes would get real big and he would want to open them :) All the presents under Jeremy’s mom’s tree had a couple rips in them by Christmas day as Jakob and his cousin Kate had tried to open them. Once Kate brought a present over to Jakob, sat it down in front of him and waited for him to open it since someone already told her not to :) While we were home we went to Defuniak to see the Christmas lights. It was really cold so Jeremy ended up taking Jakob to the car (we were still watching Jakey for pneumonia from his diaper incident) but the rest of us walked around the lake and looked at the lights. Jakob had a lot of fun playing with his cousins in Gamma’s back yard. Even on the day when it was soooo cold outside the kids just wanted to play in the backyard. We finally took Jakob to Turkey Creek. We always want to do it when we’re home but usually don’t have time to. He ran almost to the very end of the boardwalk (which is about a half mile, I think) and then part of the way back. Jeremy went hunting a bunch while we were there, so he was a happy man. My mom watched Jakob for me the day after Christmas so Kara and I could go shopping. I ended up only buying a shirt from ATL (which I've loved forever but didn't want to pay 50 bucks for -got it for 12.50!-) and a new purse which I didn't even know I needed so badly until I cleaned out the old one and found holes in the bottom of it. The sales were not impressive this year. Still it was fun to shop with my sister :)  I ate soooo much stuff that I don’t normally while we were home (taco pizza, panera bread, old mexico, some kind of barbeque potato thing, not to mention all the Christmas food!) I was scared to get on the scale when I got home but that’s a good thing about eating low carb. Sometimes a week of eating stuff you don’t normally eat speeds up your metabolism and I didn’t gain anything :) We are still eating really strictly for the next two weeks to get all the sugar out of our bodies from all the carbohydrates we’ve consumed :) Anyways, all in all we had a really good time. I cannot tell you how much we miss the "boggy" way of life. We miss southern accents and friendly personalities. I miss the familiarity of home. I love going to the Destin Commons and seeing people who I used to cut their hair or watch their kids at the daycare. I even miss the smell of the woods burning :) I'm sure Jeremy misses burning the woods. I didn’t know if we were going to get all the presents home in our car but we managed to cram it all in there and unpacked it all quickly. Jakob has made it two weeks with clear lungs so according to the doctor we are out of the woods with his lungs. Praise the Lord for that. Now I can talk about what I really wanted to blog about. Naps. Jakob just turned 2 in August. I really think he still needs a nap. I really need him to take a nap as I get 5 times more accomplished when he naps than I do in a whole day with him awake. The problem is if I lay him down at 1 o’clock or even 1:30 he plays in his bedroom till 2 or 2:30 and then doesn’t wake up until 5. Sometimes I have to wake him up at 5. If I wake him up before 5 he is sooooo cranky. The whole time we were in Niceville he only took one or two naps and the days he didn’t nap he would get a little fussy around 4 or 4:30 but he slept so well and woke up around 8 every morning. I’m thinking we may just skip the naps and put him to bed around 8 or 8:30 from now on. (his regular bed time is 9) There’s advantages and disadvantages to both, but the best thing (in my mind) is without a nap Jakob is super tired at night so he  goes right to sleep and doesn’t play in his room in the dark, which means he has less time to get into trouble (i.e. putting things in his mouth that don’t belong there!!!) We’re trying no naps this week and we’ll see how it goes…

Wow. I can't believe this is coming!! EEEEEE

Have you tried dark out curtains or shades? We have blankets on top of the curtain rods to make Roo's room super dark. It has helped with naps and sleeping in later in the morning.

And potentially using some type of white noise?

Are you going to try for some 'quiet stay in room/bed' time instead of a nap to give him some down time?
