Talk to me...

So at Jakob’s 2 year well check I asked his doctor about his speech. The doctor said he should definitely be talking more than he is and recommended we take him to see a speech pathologist. He gave me a couple places to call. I got home and started calling immediately. I talked to a lady that runs a pediatric speech therapy clinic and she was so nice and helpful. She gave me some things to ask my insurance company about and then I called the insurance company. I was on the phone with them for at least 4 hours (if not more) only to be told that the clinic I had already talked to was not covered under our insurance. Eventually the insurance company offered to call me back once they’d done some research and found more doctors. I got a call a few hours later that there were only two pediatric speech therapists in all of Fort Myers (there are none in the county we live in). One obviously was not covered by our insurance and the other is considered a “hospital” so our co-pay is going to be a lot higher going to see this doctor. All in all it’s going to be super expensive having Jakob in therapy. The doctor I spoke with said usually kids come twice a week (which is $75 a visit for us) not to mention the gas we will spend driving the hour and 15 or 20 minutes it takes to get there. I would like to ask y’all to pray that something will work out. I feel so selfish asking that he doesn’t have to have therapy, or that maybe it could be pushed off till we move back home (if that even happens!) but this whole issue is stressing me out. His appointment with the therapist is on Friday, so I would appreciate your prayers that we will know what is best for him and that the situation would work out.
Thanks!

Praying!!

I've been wondering about this a lot given our conversations about Jakey's talking (or rather not talking). I was actually going to talk to you about it after your last comment, but then you wrote this post.

I wonder if you can talk to the Dr. about 1 visit per week due to cost instead of 2? Maybe that might help on cost and you can work with him on homework stuff at home?

Praying something will work out! xoxo

I am not sure about the services in Fl but here in IN and in MI I know they have great early intervention programs, ours was called first steps.I am pretty sure it is federal law that every state has some type of program. You might have to pay some but usually if you make less than 150k per year you dont have to pay.I would go to your family social service center and ask what they have available, most places only go from birth to age 3,but 1 year of therapy is better than nothing.Ill pray everything works out,$75 per visit is a lot:(

I looked it up and Floridas is through the dept of health and is called "early steps".I would just ask for(or demand if you have to) an evaluation,I loved Bens speech therapist.Hope it all works out:)
